St. Mary's Catholic High School

Welcome to Year 12. This marks the first year of your non-compulsory education. You will have heard on many occasions that your new courses are ‘A real step up from GCSE!’ It’s completely true but with the support and guidance of the team you will be well equipped to achieve superb outcomes.

The Sixth Form is all about achievement. A Levels or vocational courses are a means to an end be it university, apprenticeship or employment. However you have to think about this now and build up.

  • Offers will be made based on your Y12 performance/BTEC progress
  • Think about work experience
  • Think about other interests
  • Think about your personal statement
  • Think about your reference

You will feel more independence than ever before. That brings a higher level of responsibility, motivation and organisation. Make use of your ‘non-contact time’ by using the well resourcesd study centre to consolidate work done in lessons. Be organised and prepared for every day.

  • Bring a working day file to college every day
    • Dividers
    • Plastic wallets
    • File Paper
    • Highlighters
  • Master file at home for archiving

The highest levels of attendance and punctuality are expected to ensure your continued success.

Each student will be allocated a personal tutor who they will meet with each week. The tutor is responsible for overseeing the student’s progress, monitoring attendance and delivering a series of sessions based on the VESPA model. In Year 13 this tutor will also support and guide students with careers and UCAS applications.
