Sixth Form Give Back To the Community
As the Sixth Form Committee we wanted to give something back to the community at this time of year when many people are less fortunate than us. We contacted Atherton & Leigh Foodbank asking how we could help this Christmas. We then encouraged Sixth Form and Staff to donate to our ‘Reverse Advent Calendar’ which we set up in the Sixth Form Study Area.
We were asking for donations of non-perishable items, hygiene products, pasta, long life milk and tinned fruit & meat. This was then collected by some of the volunteers of Atherton & Leigh Foodbank who were astounded by the amount of donation from the Sixth Form. Overall we collected 4 full boxes of items to be sent to less fortunate people.
We still felt like we hadn’t given enough back to the community so we decided to contact Lyndhurst Residential Care Home In Leigh to ask about us donating a hamper and spending some time with the residents. Again we asked Sixth Form & Staff to donate items such as: mince pies, biscuits, crackers, cakes and mulled wine of which could then be made into a hamper and given to residents and staff at Lyndhurst. Visiting the residents at this time of year when many are alone was such a rewarding thing to do. The Sixth Form committee thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon at Lyndhurst Residential Care Home.
We would like to thank all of the Sixth Formers and Staff who donated to our foodbank and hamper and would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year.
Sixth Form Committee.
