Year 11 Taster Day
On Thursday 29th November our Year 11 students had another opportunity to sample life as a sixth form student at St. Mary’s. To follow on from their taster day in Year 10, students chose three subjects to try from the wide range of AS Levels and vocational courses that we offer. Staff delivered sample lessons from their course so students could find out what the subject involved and the areas they would study if they picked this course next year. In addition, students participated in a careers session to make sure that the sixth form team can support their aspirations when they join St. Mary's. The students also had a talk with Mr Rayner about how St. Mary's can further support their dreams and ambitions of university, jobs or apprenticeships.
The students attended in non-uniform and had the opportunity to use the Common Room and sixth form facilities. Feedback from staff was brilliant – the students really involved themselves throughout the day. Mr Rayner has been organising the taster day for over 10 years and described the Year 11 students as the best set of students that have ever been involved with this event!
The purpose of the day is to help the Year 11 students make an informed decision about which courses they will study next year and understand the support and high quality teaching they will receive in the sixth form at St. Mary’s. The feedback received suggests that we did just that!
