Advertising Unlocked for St Mary’s Sixth Form
A group of St Mary’s Sixth Form students currently studying business were recently invited to attend an initiative formulated by the IPA in conjunction with BJL Advertising Agency in Manchester. The day commenced with an introduction by Jackie Holt (Managing Partner of BJL) which gave an insight into the advertising industry, the work carried out by BJL and the many career paths that can be followed in this vibrant sector.
Students competed in teams to develop an advertising brief for two new products and the day culminated in the students having to pitch their ideas to industry professionals and their peers. The day provided a platform for students to showcase their skills and creativity. A number of awards were given at the end of the day including five awards that were presented in recognition of individual contributions, St Mary’s students secured three of these individual awards and were thoroughly deserving of them.
All students benefitted greatly from the experience, many using the opportunity to overcome their own personal challenges including- public speaking and leadership whilst others used the day to investigate their chosen careers further.
Many thanks go to the staff of BJL for their generosity throughout the visit and to Jackie Holt for the invitation. We look forward to forging even stronger links with them in the future. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the students who were a credit to the Business department and to St Mary’s Sixth Form. Well done!
