24hr Fundraising Run for Niall

On 10th and 11th May, St Mary’s staff and students took part in a 24 hour run in memory of Niall Dearnaley who died last year. This event was organised by Niall’s younger brother Oran who wanted to repay the charity Once Upon a Smile for their continued support over the past year.  This charity provides bereaved families with support and care after the death of a loved one.

The run began at 1.30pm on Thursday 10th May with Oran starting and finishing the run.  A number of staff and sixth form students ran throughout the night and the event was live streamed through the school’s social media. The event was a huge success and the amount raised is still rising and is expected to exceed £6,000.  Donations can still be made at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/24hoursforniall

Oran commented at the end of the run “I didn’t expect the run to be this successful and to raise such a huge amount of money.  I’m blown away by everyone’s support to remember Niall this way.  He would have loved this!”

The finale was made extra special by the arrival of some of the celebrity patrons of the charity including Wes Brown.  Daniel Jillings, actor and founder of the charity, gave an emotional thank you to everyone involved.
