Hallé Project Adopt-A-Player
Since January, St. Mary’s and three of our partner primary schools, Astley St Stephen’s, St Ambrose Barlow and Boothstown Holy Family have been involved in an exciting musical journey with the Hallé Orchestra.
At St. Mary’s 30 Year 7 students have been working hard in three workshops to create their own composition based on Beethoven’s Symphony No 3 and specifically working on the 4th movement. We were very lucky to have Helen - one of the 1st Violin players from the Hallé who led all the workshops and inspired all the pupils involved. In our composition there was a variety of different instruments which were all played by the pupils brilliantly.
After workshop one we had a fantastic trip to the Bridgewater Hall to watch the Hallé Orchestra play a programme of pieces such as Vaughan Williams Overture: The Wasps, Elgar Cello Concerto, Beethoven Symphony No 3 in Eb Major (Erioca). All the pupils thoroughly enjoyed watching the concert and we had the best seats in the house sitting behind the orchestra!
The Adopt-A-Player project finally culminated in a concert on Monday 12th February when St. Mary’s, the three primary schools and the Hallé musicians all played their response to the different movements of Beethoven’s symphony. St. Mary’s String Ensemble opened up the concert brilliantly performing ‘Thinking Out Loud’ by Ed Sheeran and ‘Pavane’ by Faure.
This was an amazing experience for both St. Mary’s and the primary schools and we hope that we get to do it again soon.
