Special visit from Hannah Russell MBE – British Paralympic Swimmer.
On Monday 11th December we were extremely excited to welcome Hannah Russell double Paralympic champion, World and European Champion Swimmer, to our school. Hannah has a birth condition known as extreme myopia, which restricts her vision to a distance of around one metre but she has never let that stand in her way of achieving her childhood dream of becoming a swimmer.
Hannah delivered an inspirational speech to 30 of our talented performers from years 7,8 and 9. Not only did we learn about Hannah’s achievements but she gave us an insight into her day to day life and the kind of challenges she faces. Hannah’s story is one of motivation and dedication and she taught us that we can all achieve our dreams no matter what they may be. These dreams do not come without sacrifice and it was interesting to hear the kind of sacrifices Hannah had to make in order to be the best and achieve on such a great scale.
For more information keep an eye out for the display board in PE, Mr Barrett took some fantastic photos showing Hannah and some of our students with her Paralympic gold medal.
Thank you again to Hannah Russell and to Mr Nestor, one of our school governors, for helping to organise the event.
