Super Week of Rugby

Super Week of Rugby!

Over the past three days there has been some spectacular rugby on show here at St Mary's. On Tuesday the year 7's kicked us off in the annual Leigh School's Rugby Tournament. The newly formed team took to the pitch for the first time beating Westhoughton High School convincingly by 24 points to 0. They then defeated Bedford High School in the final 8-4 and therefore qualified for the North West Counties this year.

On Wednesday the year 10's, and current Wigan School Champions, hosted St Peter's in the North West Counties. It was a terrific, closely fought contest which ended in a disappointing 16-12 loss. A special mention must be made to two year 9 boys, Harley Pattinson and Danny Linton, who made the step up to help the team due to a couple of injuries.

Finally, on Thursday, the year 8 team started their season with a warm up game against Standish High School. The game ended in tense fashion, with Jack Edge scoring the winning try to make it 22-18. Oran Dearnaley was outstanding throughout the game and won the Man of the Match award.

Training continues every Tuesday for boy's rugby 3-4pm. All abilities are welcome!
