Our Mission at St. Mary’s Catholic High School & Sixth Form College
We are proud to be a Catholic community here at St. Mary’s. Central to this is our mission statement that “Let all that you do, be done in love”. With this confidence we grow each day knowing that through Him we will be supported and upheld through the challenges and joys of school life. St. Mary’s is a welcoming and inspiring Catholic community, rooted in the values of the Gospel, where there is a sense of belonging, care, and a commitment to building up the Kingdom of God. All leaders act as witnesses to the Catholic Mission of the school and seek to model this each day in both word and action. We are mindful that in an increasingly secular society our mission is both to provide a high-quality Catholic education and to witness to the way of Jesus each day and make Him known and present to all we encounter; guest, student, and staff.
As a community we share in daily prayer and liturgy; centered on scripture and drawing on a wide range of prayer styles from our Catholic tradition. At the heart of our mission is Catholic Social Teaching which is used to instill in our community a sense of social justice, care for our common home, and respect for the inherent dignity of each one of us. As a result, pupils and parents understand the distinct value of being in a Catholic school and staff want to work here and stay here because they feel valued and loved.
Prayer and liturgy are central to our life throughout the school year and we offer pupils numerous opportunities to lead and participate in liturgies. As a result students make time each day for a moment of reflection, peace, and prayer, they have opportunities to reflect and share their own faith journeys, and experience community celebrations throughout the year. At the beginning of our school calendar is the Year 7 Mass of Welcome, and through each school term and season of the liturgical calendar we celebrate and reflect with celebrations of Mass or other liturgies. At the centre of our school is our Chapel, where in addition to a weekly year group Celebration of the Word students celebrate Mass with their year group, their Form Patron Group, and the school celebrates Holy Days of Obligation and other occasions.
