Welcome Year 6

Congratulations and welcome to St. Mary’s!

We are absolutely delighted to confirm that you have been offered a place at St. Mary’s, and we are so pleased that you will be joining our St. Mary’s family.

To our new students — starting secondary school is an exciting milestone, filled with new opportunities, new friendships and new experiences. At St. Mary’s, you will be welcomed, supported and encouraged to grow in confidence, character and faith.
To our parents and carers — thank you for placing your trust in us. We understand that this transition is an important moment for your family. Please be assured that we are fully committed to ensuring your child feels safe, known and valued from the very beginning. Becoming part of the St. Mary’s family means belonging to a community built on respect, care and high expectations.
Over the coming months, we will work closely with your child’s primary school to ensure a smooth and positive transition.

You can expect:

  • Further communication with key dates and important information.
  • Invitations to transition events and information evenings.
  • A dedicated Transition Day where students will meet staff, experience lessons and begin forming friendships. This will be followed by a Parental Welcome Evening.
    • Student Transition Day: Tuesday 30th June [9am – 2:50pm]
    • Parental Welcome Evening: Tuesday 30th June [5:30pm – 6:30pm]
  • Guidance on uniform, equipment, timetables and pastoral support.

Please click on the link at the bottom of this page to complete our online form to allow your child to name two children who your child would like to be in a form group with. This is not guaranteed but we will do our best to accommodate.

To ensure a smooth transition into St. Mary’s there is some important information we need to collect from you. To do this we use a system called My Child At School (MCAS). You will receive an email directly from MCAS with your log in details after the Easter holidays. Our transition and pastoral teams take great pride in getting to know every child as an individual. We believe that strong relationships are at the heart of success, and we will support your child to settle quickly and confidently into life at St. Mary’s.

It is completely natural for students to feel a mixture of excitement and nerves at this stage — we will be there every step of the way to guide and reassure them. If you have any questions in the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact our Admissions Team by sending an email to admissions@st-maryshigh.wigan.sch.uk

Kind regards,
