Co-Curricular Y7-Y13

At St Mary’s, we believe that education extends beyond the classroom. Our diverse co-curricular programme is designed to enrich students' personal development, encouraging them to explore their interests, discover new talents, and grow into well-rounded individuals. Rooted in our Catholic virtues of faith, hope, and love, these opportunities help to nurture the whole person — mind, body, and spirit.

Through participation in a wide range of clubs, sports, arts, and community service activities, students build resilience, develop leadership skills, and foster a strong sense of responsibility. Faith guides their journey, as they learn to approach challenges with confidence and hope. The co-curricular activities instill the virtue of love, encouraging students to show kindness, compassion, and respect for others, both within our school community and beyond.

Whether it's through creative expression, teamwork on the field, or service projects that reach out to those in need, our co-curricular offer reflects our commitment to helping each student grow in faith, strengthen their hope, and share love in all that they do. We encourage every student to take part and thrive in these opportunities, becoming the best version of themselves.

Co-Curricular Testimonials

"I absolutely loved being part of the school choir and performing at the summer concert for the primary schools. It was such an amazing experience to share the music we had worked hard on with the younger pupils and see how much they enjoyed it. Singing together as a choir made me feel part of something special, and it helped me grow in confidence with every rehearsal.

I also felt proud knowing that we were setting an example for the primary school students, showing them how fun and rewarding it can be to get involved in music. Being part of the choir wasn’t just about singing — it was about teamwork, supporting each other, and being part of the school community. I can’t wait for the next performance!"

Y8 Pupil – School Choir

"Being part of the Matilda school production, which is set to take the stage in February, has been such a unique experience — especially because I’ve had the chance to help run some of the rehearsals. As a member of Sixth form, it’s been incredible not just to perform but also to step into a leadership role, supporting the younger students as they grow in confidence and develop their talents.

Balancing performing with helping to direct has been a challenge, but it’s also been rewarding.  The sense of teamwork and commitment from everyone is inspiring, and I feel proud to be part of something so special.

Running rehearsals has taught me a lot about patience, responsibility, and how much effort goes into putting on a great show. It’s been a lot of hard work, but we’re all excited as we get closer to February. I can’t wait to see all our efforts come together on stage and share this experience with the whole school community!"

Y12 Pupil – Drama Club Production

"Being part of the Chinese Culture Club has been an incredible experience, I never thought I would have the chance to learn Mandarin! The teachers have been so supportive, and it’s amazing how much I’ve learned in such a short time.

One of the highlights for me has been learning Chinese calligraphy, practicing it has taught me a lot about patience and attention to detail. It’s really cool to see how language and culture are connected through writing.

We also had the chance to visit Chinatown, which was an unforgettable experience, seeing Chinese culture up close, tasting the food, the shops and the atmosphere helped bring everything we’ve been learning in the club to life.

Being part of the club has not only given me new skills, but it’s opened my eyes to a culture that’s so different from my own. I feel more confident and open-minded because of it, and I can’t wait to keep learning more.”

Y9 Pupil – Chinese Culture Club

“What I love most about STEM Club is how it encourages us to think creatively and solve problems as a team. Working with other students who are just as passionate about STEM as I am has been really inspiring, and we all push each other to think outside the box. The club has also introduced me to career possibilities I hadn’t thought of before, and it’s made me even more motivated to pursue a future in a STEM field.

It’s a great environment where we can explore our interests, try new things, and see the impact STEM can have on the world. I feel more confident in my abilities and can’t wait to take on more challenges in the future!"
