A poet, author, communist revolutionary, refugee and latterly a nun. Saint Maria Skobtsova lived amongst the poor of Paris, with an open door for all in need, growing community, and when faced with evil giving her life to save others during the Holocaust.
Our Skobtsova mural is presented as if on the wall of the house, with the open door at the bottom remembering her as ‘the Saint of the Open Door’. Orthodox imagery recalls her faith, with the flames along her shoulder a symbol of martyrdom, remembering her sacrifice in Ravensbrück.
