What a fantastic Welcome Conference and Mass was had by all!

Despite some adverse weather conditions, the students threw themselves into all of the activities both at Howe Bridge and at school with Animate. They have climbed, sang, scooted, run, danced, acted, reflected, shot arrows, problem-solved and had the most fabulous experiences as the photos show.

We finished off our Conference with Mass at St Joseph’s Church Leigh on Thursday evening and were delighted to be joined by so many of the year group as well as the Primary Headteachers, form teachers, KS3, SLT, the Music department, RE Department, House Leaders and four of our Priests, all of whom played a vital role in making the mass as special as could be.

The welcome mass is a little different from usual masses, as there is a lot going on, so that the occasion is memorable!

We welcomed Fr Ian MacParland who's homily focused on how we have all been blessed with different gifts and talents and how students will flourish during their time at St Mary’s.

Other highlights included the beautiful music provided by the choir and sixth form band, readers, Year 11 prefects bringing the offertory gifts and magnificent sign language by pupils from 7W.

Finally, we had a video which showcased the year 7’s first few weeks at St Mary’s – including highlights from the welcome conference with the Animate Youth Team looking at being part of a catholic community and the trip to Howe Bridge Leisure Centre.

The choir and musicians were truly outstanding and our thanks go to all those who work tirelessly behind the scenes to make this mass, and the welcome conference, a truly memorable occasion.
